A 17-year-old girl told a court how a boy chopped off her hands, slashed her breasts and left her for dead.
Martha Mbulungo, a student at Yumbisye Secondary School, on Thursday testified in the murder trial of her alleged assailant Wilson Mwendwa.
She recalled how she was lured out of her home in Kitui town, last October 21, on the pretence of taking a leisurely walk. She was then taken to secluded place where she was ferociously attacked with a panga and left bleeding.
She said on the day in question, Mwendwa came to her home in the evening and asked her to accompany him for a walk as they went to a chemist to buy medicine.
“He led me on a path leading to a building under construction. Suddenly he cut me on the forehead and went on to cut me several times, severing my hands, cutting my breasts and leaving me for dead,’’ recalled Mbulungo. She regained consciousness at Kitui General Hospital where she was treated for months. Her mother, Mary Mbulungo, told the court she was informed about the attack on her daughter by a caller 30 minutes after she left home.
“I thought my daughter went to buy dried potatoes sold near our plot but was shocked to find her in a pool of blood 30 minutes later,’’ the woman said.
The alleged assailant, Wilson Mwendwa however denied the charges before Kitui principal magistrate Beatrice Kimemia.
Under questioning by prosecutor Mildred Ajamong, Mbulungo denied having a love affair with Mwendwa. She said they both worshipped at the Jehova Witness Church in Kitui town, where their parents worshiped.
The hearing continues on August 18.
