Council of Governors chairman Isaac Rutto has vowed to carry on with the referendum push even as it emerged that Deputy President William Ruto met some URP governors Wednesday night at his Harambee Annex office.
Despite withdrawal of TNA governors from the campaign to strengthen county governments, Rutto maintained that he would not back down unless the national government showed commitment to ensuring devolution succeeded.
“Our counterparts in TNA maybe fine but for us in URP, we must fight for the issues we have lined up for referendum to ensure that devolution is protected and successful,” he said.
On Wednesday, eight governors from TNA pulled out of the referendum push while 10 governors, mostly from URP, are reported to have held lengthy night talks with the Deputy President at his office.
