High court orders murder suspect to be taken to Mathare Mental Hospital

6 Aug 2014

The High court in Nyeri has ordered Mukurwe-ini MP Kabando wa Kabando’s brother, Ceaser Thiari, to be admitted to Mathare Mental Hospital in Nairobi for one month.

Thiari who was charged with killing his mother, Rose Wachera Mwangi, will stay at the mental health facility until September 18 when his case is set for mention.

High court judge Justice James Wakiaga said the court would then decide whether the suspect will undergo full court trial.

The decision came after lawyer Njeru Njue from the Director of Public Prosecution’s office tabled a psychiatric medical report in court. The report showed that Thiari was suffering from Chronic Psychiatric illness. The lawyer also said that Thiari was mentally unstable hence could not appreciate court proceedings.
