Now, Valentine has gone and back to serious business.
Talking business, today there was a terrible blackout during
the day that we should think of diversifying our options if we are to ever
imagine of getting anywhere near Vision 2030 in time.
This occurred twice and with my kind of business it was a
great loss as I depend so much on electricity to run my machines.
The K.P.L.C. will readily blame this on the low level of
water in our hydro-generating dams and we should expect our electricity bills
to hike too for the same reason. (But even during the long rains we have even
more severe blackouts. Of course it’s due to short-circuits. I know)
This would mean that many businesses would be operating at a
loss and may have to cut costs. And what’s an enhanced recipe for an economic
recession other than cutting of costs and diminution of production. Thinking?
Fine, we ought to also expect the shilling’s value in the world market to pitch
lower head fast even with the parliamentary committee having submitted their
recommendation to have CBK governor step aside for ‘sleeping on the job’. It could
have been beyond his power and might not be solved by sending him packing.
Kenya
is at present experiencing a sunny spell in nearly all parts of the country if
not all. Has the government ever contemplated the idea of harnessing all this
solar energy for the production of electricity to supplement from we have from
Kengen and Uganda?
Why not set up stations in the drier parts of North-Eastern and Eastern regions
of Kenya
to utilize the ability of these regions. We would be saving our economy by not
having to import as much oil and electricity. We would be keeping our shilling
within the country by cutting back our volume of imports and who knows? We may
even end up exporting electricity to Southern-Sudan! Who knows? That would be a
favourable balance of trade.
Naf said.
With these recurrent blackouts, I suppose the 24 hour
economy dream should be left to the bank ATM’s. Could somebody be thinking
about this?
If you have not known, the benefits of a 24 hour economy are
numerous than you could ever envision. It ranges from employment all the way down
to peace and stability. Anything better?
Your imagination is the limit.
Still with me? Think Kenyan today and contribute to change in
our nation.
