Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has denied the perceived existence of a rift between Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero and leaders of the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) and declared that they fully support the governor.
Mr Odinga, who paid a visit to the Governor at the Nairobi City Hall on Wednesday, said they had confidence in Dr Kidero and described him as a key plank in the Coalition.
“We in Cord fully support the Governor and will ensure that he gets all the backing he needs to deliver to the people of Nairobi,” he stated.
Mr Odinga spent most of the morning at City Hall where he met Dr Kidero before holding lengthy meetings with Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) allied to the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) and some County Executives.
“The Governor has a difficult task of ensuring that key services such as infrastructure, education, health, garbage collection and the general welfare of the Nairobi people are delivered,” said Mr Odinga after emerging from the meetings.
An elated Kidero said they had fruitful discussions on issues affecting Nairobi residents.
“We are happy that Baba found time to be with us this morning to talk about issues of development touching on how, as a County Government, we should address the needs of Nairobi people,” he said.
Mr Odinga was accompanied by Cord MPs among them T. J. Kajwang, Irshad Sumra, Mohamed Junet, Mpuri Aburi and Kisumu Senator Anyang' Nyong'o.
Dr Kidero has been on the receiving end from a section of CORD leaders who accused him of undermining the opposition by being associating closely with Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee administration.
During Raila’s homecoming rallyon May 31, Dr Kidero was heckled down as he tried to address the gathering at Uhuru Park.
