26 Jun 2014

A previously cancelled CORD rally would now proceed as had been planned in Uasin Gishu on Friday. This development came after a meeting between the Uasin Gishu Governor, Jackson Mandago, CORD officials, the county commissioner and security agencies.

Governor Mandago and county commissioner Abdi Mohammed met Cord officials in Eldoret and agreed that the rally should proceed. Police yesterday allegedly cancelled the meeting citing security reasons although Cord maintained that they would carry on as had earlier planned. Cord also highlighted that security agencies had no mandate to cancel such meetings.

Mandago, however claimed that the the rally could be dangerous alleging that tension was high in the area.

Uasin Gishu CORD chairman, Kipkorir Menjo said that they had ironed out their differences and that the rally would be peaceful on Friday.

“We have asked the police to play their role of providing security but we are peaceful people and are not interested in chaos,” he said.
