Pandanguo in Lamu attacked yet again

13 Jul 2014

A gang of gunmen on Saturday night reportedly raided Pandanguo village in Witu Division, Lamu West for the second time around 11pm.

The attackers broke through doors looting from houses, including one belonging to a KWS officer in the area, harvested farm produce and disappeared with property of unknown value.

According to one resident, the gunmen fired several times in the air to scare away villagers who ran into the nearby forest fearing for their safety.

“They fired in the air to scare us. On hearing the gunshots many of us fled into the forest where we spent the night,” said the resident.

They then invaded the famous Jima Farm in the same village where they harvested more than two acres of green maize.

Confirming the incident, one of the area chiefs said, “We were attacked again yesterday at around 11pm. They scared people out of their houses in order to loot. They then went to Jima farm and harvested maize and left. No one was injured during the incident.”

Saturday night's attacks come barely two days after armed bandits raided the same village, making away with property from several houses and medical supplies from Pandanguo dispensary. They also set two classrooms, an administration block and a food store at Pandanguo primary school on fire before proceeding to rob six rifles from Kenya Police Reservist officers stationed to guard the village.
