IEBC defends ongoing silent voter registration

The electoral commission has said it has no money to advertise an ongoing voter registration.

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Central Nyanza regional coordinator Rasi Masudi said as a result, most people were not aware of the registration in 19 constituencies out of 21 adding that registration had been suspended in Nyando and Karachuonyo, Kibiriri Ward due to pending by-elections.

Mr Masudi said advertising the voter registration was a constitutional requirement meant to shield the commission from public suspicion. He said constituency coordinators will involve MPs and Members of the County Assemblies to mobilise people to register.
