The Machakos Voters’ Lobby Group has embarked on a campaign to collect 100,000 signatures to block the impeachment of Deputy Governor Bernard Kiala.
The group's Secretary General Mark Kitonyi said as soon as they complete the exercise, they will file a case at the High Court to petition against his impeachment by the Senate adding that the case will be filed elsewhere as they believe the High Court in Machakos did not give Kiala a fair hearing.
Kitonyi also faulted the move by Machakos MCAs to pass the impeachment motion without consulting residents as stipulated by the law. He said the assembly clerk should have placed an advertisement in newspapers to seek residents’ views before the passing the motion.
Kitonyi, who said Kiala was being victimised for blowing the whistle over corruption in Governor Alfred Mutua’s administration, said they had no other option but to collect the signatures.
“Our people are on the ground colleting the signatures all over the county and once the exercise is concluded, we shall be filing the case by next week,” he said.
