Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto and his Meru counterpart Peter Munya Sunday maintained that they will not bow to pressure from their ruling coalition to abandon the push for a referendum.
They said they were determined to traverse the 47 counties to popularise the Pesa Mashinani initiative by governors. They accused MPs of coming up with laws that undermine devolution.
The governors said revenue allocation should be increased from 15 to 45 per cent to enable county governments improve roads and other dilapidated infrastructure.
Mr Munya said counties need additional funds to improve health and water services. Mr Ruto and Mr Munya were accompanied by Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya at the launch of the campaign in Khwisero constituency.
“Those claiming governors are playing politics in this matter are trying to intimidate some of us from Jubilee to abandon the campaign. We will not,” Mr Munya said.
Mr Oparanya said the Transitional Authority’s failure to list the devolved functions was to blame for county government problems.
