WHAT THE PRESIDENT FORGOT TO TELL YOU
1. THAT he is the third best paid president in Africa after S. Africa’s and Algeria’s.
2. THAT the Kenyan legislators are the second best paid in the WORLD after Nigeria’s.
3. THAT the 50-60% was never a creation of the teachers but a counter-offer by the Govt. through TSC.
4. THAT it is only whenever teachers ask for pay rise that there is a sudden realization the wage bill is ballooning.
5. THAT every cent on the teachers’ pay slips has never come easy from the Government. It has been earned through strikes. No government, in the Kenyan history, has woken up with the good news of increasing teachers pay without being threatened with strikes.
6. THAT even if SALARIES were harmonized, the difference in INCOME remains huge.
7. THAT the only mistake teachers have made is having the high number.
8. THAT TSC is the only commission that has come out strongly to ensure its employees are not well remunerated. Other commissions have made proposals to pay employees better. Talk of Police Service Commission, Judicial Service Commission, SRC etc
9. THAT the role of SRC has narrowed down to regulating the salaries for teachers. It is always vocal only during the teachers’ strikes. It has not been able to tame others.
10. THAT his speech had nothing new but patched up statements as had been given by TSC and SRC.
