POETRY: But now, I'm just a retired teacher

From on top of my palm tree,
Tapping wine,
A plane zooms by,
I watch it go:
I was told the pilot is Andrea,
I taught that pilot,
He was my best student,
I made other students clap for him,
When he became number one,
Now,  am a retired teacher.

Yesterday,  I went to pick,
My retirement benefits,
(To pick or to beg?)
That officer was my student,
He was the worst in maths,
I dedicated my free time for the class,
He improved,
And now he is a big man,
I couldn’t see him,
I was just a dirty old man,
My benefits are not yet ready,
I have to wait for some more months,
But now,  am a retired teacher.

From on top of the palm tree,
The village chief comes,
He points at me and claims,
I am tapping illegally,
I should give a fine,
Yet I have no money,
It’s my source of income,
My heart faints with frustration,
And as I fall down the tree, I remember the chief,
He was my headboy,
I impacted his leadership qualities,
But now,  am a retired teacher.

The doctor is too busy,
Sitted in his office,  studying books,
I wait and wait,
He does not appear,
The nurse says I give some money,
To oil his back and he will come,
I have not a shilling on me, And as I close my eyes to death,
On that bench I recall,
The doctor was the best student in mathematics,
He sat on the front bench,
Because of his eye sight problem,
But now am a retired teacher.
