Jubilee leaders urge Uhuru to sack corrupt officials

26 Jan 2014

House Majority leaders have asked President Kenyatta to expose powerful forces behind corruption in the government.

Senate Majority Leader Kindiki Kithure and House Majority Leader Aden Duale said that there were forces within the government and the business community who had been arm-twisting the government so as to win lucrative tenders.

Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen added his voice to the calls and asked the President to sack those who were corrupt within the government ranks in a week.

Mr Kindiki said the country had been hijacked by a few corrupt people.

The sentiments by the leaders came as two parliamentary committees probed the alleged irregularity in the tendering process for the construction of a standard gauge railway line Mombasa to Nairobi.

The three cited the construction of the standard gauge railway line from Mombasa to Nairobi as one of the projects that the so-called cartel had targeted to make a quick buck.

“There is a problem. There are people who were in the last government and who were the forces behind mega corruption deals like Anglo Leasing. If the President does not deal with them, we will mobilise the public to deal with them,” said Mr Murkomen.
