The missing Embu County Assembly Speaker, Justus  Kariuki Mate was found wandering on Limuru road, next to St Pauls University at midnight on Thursday.

According to the Gigiri OCPD Vitalis Otieno, Mr Mate was taken to the Gigiri Police Station by a lorry driver who said he had picked him up after he flagged down the lorry which was on its way to Nairobi.

The lorry driver could not understand what he was saying and decided to take him to the police station where the police officers also found him incoherent and took him to the Aga Khan hospital where he is currently admitted.

This comes hours after a Pangani Police Station-based detective who was charged with his abduction and confinement was released on a Sh100,000 bond by a court on Thursday though the prosecution requested that he remains in custody as investigations were inconclusive.

The CID officer, Mr Nicholas Muriuki Kangangi denied having anything to do with the speaker's disappearance.

Mr Mate's wife told Mr Justice Weldon Korir his husband disappeared while in the hands of a police officer and demanded his unconditional release. The speaker has been missing since May 19 at around 4:30pm when he walked out of a workshop discussing their county budget at a Nairobi hotel.
