UDF should quit Jubilee coalition, Khalwale

26 May 2014

Senator Bonny Khalwale has now stated that he will only work with his UDF party after it severs links with the Jubilee coalition.

“I have nothing personal with my party leader Musalia Mudavadi but I am listening to what our people want because they think the co-operation between Amani and Jubilee is no longer tenable,” said Bonny Khalwale on Sunday.

He said that Mudavadi's continued co-operation with Jubilee was insensitive to the needs of the people of western region.

The Kakamega Senator was responding to last week's demands by Musalia Mudavadi and his deputy Jeremiah Kioni that he should quit the party and seek a fresh mandate on a party of his choice.

Kioni said it was wrong for Khalwale to use the party to heckle President Uhuru in public and that the party would deal with all its allegedly dissenting members.

Mudavadi also asked Khalwale to respect the Office of the President.

Khalwale has affirmed that he will continue associating with Cord as long as UDF continued to cooperate with the Jubilee coalition. The senator said he is waiting for recommendations by a committee appointed during a recent party retreat on whether the cooperation between Amani and Jubilee is tenable.

“If the team recommends that UDF severs links with Jubilee, I will return to the fold but if it recommends otherwise, I will continue listening to what our people want and that is not co-operating with Jubilee,” said Senator Bonny Khalwale.
