Police in Naivasha have arrested two men suspected of circulating leaflets that the authorities believe had been authored to cause tension and amounted to incitement.

The two, who hail from Kinangop in Nyandarua County, were arrested in Naivasha town where they were distributing the leaflets to the public.

Confirming the incident, Naivasha OCPD Charles Kortok said that the arrests were a breakthrough in leading the police to the source of the leaflets.

“The arrest of the two is a breakthrough for the police, who in the past have not arrested any suspects in relation to the circulation of leaflets in parts of the town,” he said.

The OCPD explained that the police acted on a tip-off from the public that the two people had photocopied the leaflets in one of the cyber cafes and were distributing them.

He added that when they searched the suspects, who are in their mid 60s, officers found them in possession of the leaflets.

He stated that the suspects would remain in custody pending further investigations and subsequent arraignment in court.

He appealed to the residents to remain calm until investigations were over, adding that security personnel in the area were alert and could handle any form of insecurity.

The OCPD thanked members of the public for their cooperation and urged them to continue supporting the officers by giving information on situations that might compromise security.
