Police have cancelled a Cord rally that was scheduled to take place in Eldoret on Friday. Other rallies that had been planned for Iten and Kapsabet towns were also cancelled.
Police say they had to cancel the rallies after learning that goons had been hired to disrupt the meetings.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago has also bared Cord from using venues in the town for rallies due to what he called tensions in the region over the planned meeting.
The rally was to be held at 64 stadium in Eldoret town. ODM Chairman in Eldoret Kipkorir Menjo and other Cord leaders attempted to secure other venues in Eldoret including the Sports Club and Huruma Grounds but were informed that the rally cannot be held at any of the venues.
Menjo and other Cord leaders in the region protested over the move but said they had decided to call off the rallies indefinitely.
Governor for Elgeyo Marakwet Alex Tolgos and Deputy Governor for Nandi Dominic Biwott had also vowed not to allow the rallies by Cord.
