At least 12 residents were reported dead after they consumed an illicit brew in Kapsabet town, Nandi County on Thursday.
Among the victims who succumbed to the killer brew were a village elder, a teacher, a laboratory technician and the assistant Chief for Kamobo sub-location in Kapsabet town. The chief died while receiving medical attention early Thursday morning.
The bodies of the victims were moved to the district hospital mortuary in Kapsabet town.
Nandi County Commissioner Matilda Sakwa reported that the police had commenced investigations into the unfortunate occurrence.
Four other victims were reported to have been admitted at the district hospital in critical condition.
President Uhuru Kenyatta will visit the county tomorrow while NACADA Chairman John Mututho is is expected to head to Kapsabet and lead investigations into the incident.
