Two suspects believed to be linked to the Al Shabaab terror group were on Friday afternoon arrested by the Kenya Defense Forces in Lamu. The suspects were in possession of expired Tanzanian passports and were taken into custody as they were about to board a Tahmeed Bus to Mombasa. It was reported that they had earlier transported their luggage to Mombasa through Simba Coach commuter service and were allegedly fleeing to Tanzania through the porous Lunga-Lunga border in Kwale county.
The two, Abdhallah and Athuman, both 26 year old Tanzanians were flown to Nairobi in a military aircraft under tight security.
Forensic investigations conducted by detectives on their mobile phone data reportedly showed that they were well connected with the al Shabaab and communicated frequently with individuals outside the country.
Meanwhile, details of a CCTV footage of the June 15 and 16 Mpeketoni attacks are emerging. The footage shows a woman who appeared to be commanding the group of attackers armed with two Ceska pistols on her waist, an AK47 and a belt of bullets wrapped around her shoulder. She also wore a hijab covering part of her face.
The other militia men had general purpose machine guns, rocket launchers, grenades and night-vision equipment.
