Matatu tout killed after falling off a moving bus

25 Aug 2014

A Star minibus tout was today killed instantly after he lost his grip and got ran over by another bus from the same company. The tout was hanging on the moving bus before he slipped to his death.

One witness said the tout was drunk, disorderly and was swinging on the door when he lost his grip. The witness also said that efforts by the passengers to stop him were futile.

"I think his death was on call," said another witness who alleged to have warned the tout against hanging on the door.

The accident comes in the wake of stiff measures being employed by the National Transport Authority (NTSA) to arrest careless drivers and touts hanging on doors of public service vehicles.

The NTSA has said that the number of deaths from road accidents in the first 15 days of August had reduced by more than half compared to the same period last year. NTSA Director for Road Safety Mathew Munyao said 115 people lost their lives in this time period compared to the 302 who died in the same period last year.
