Cord Leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday sealed a deal with China to provide Kenyan farmers with farm machinery and inputs. Farmers are also set to benefit from technological skills and guaranteed market.
The input offered includes mechanized harvesters, irrigation equipment, fish processing plants as well as after sales service. He called on the government to reduce bureaucratic processes that hinder direct foreign investment into Kenya.
The China Overseas Agricultural Development Alliance is considering allowing Kenyan export into the Chinese market, with Bamboo products from Nyamira County likely to be first.
In return, Kenya will pool resources to provide large farmlands ranging between 40-50,000 hectares.
The project will be piloted in 10 Kenyan Counties within the Lake Victoria Basin.
