A 19-year-old form three student in Gatundu district narrated her rape ordeal before a Gatundu court yesterday. She told resident magistrate DM Ndungi that she was raped by a Royal Media Services journalist.
The girl said she had come from the Gatundu Registration of Persons office when Michael Njoroge approached her and introduced himself as a reporter with Royal Media Services. He then offered to give her a lift to her home in Kiamwangi, saying he was also headed there. But on reaching Githioro junction he diverted to another road leading to Kenyatta Road.
She became suspicious but Njoroge said the route was shorter. Njoroge drove to Ruiru town where he lured the girl to a room, locked the door and raped her. She said Njoroge threatened to kill her if she called for help.
“He is heavily built and easily overpowered me,” said the girl.
The girl said Njoroge gave her his phone number to contact him “in case of any complication”.
She said Njoroge later dropped her near her home. Her mother took her to Gatundu Level Four Hospital when she noticed blood stains on her legs. They then filed a report at Gatundu police station. Njoroge has denied the charge and is out on bond. The hearing is scheduled to continue on August 12.
