Mr Ismail Omondi, the man arrested by anti-terror police in connection with the terror attack on Mpeketoni was on Thursday released without charges.
He was apprehended on suspicion that he posted messages on the internet to pass as official announcements by Somalia based terror group, Al-Shabaab. The messages are said to have indicated that the terror group had claimed responsibility for the terror attacks in Mpeketoni.
Mr Ismail was being interrogated in connection with a Twitter account in which over 3,000 text as well as photo and video messages were posted. Officers from the National Intelligence Service, the Anti-terrorism police and cyber crime experts, with help of Internet Service providers and mobile phone services providers tracked the him to Majengo area in Nairobi.
The government has maintained the attack was ethnically and politically motivated.
The Associated Press, however, quoted an Al-Shabaab source said to have spoken on Radio Andalus, ran by the terror group in Somalia, claiming responsibility. Gory pictures of the massacre were also posted in the account which has been operational since 2011.
