Four people are feared dead after a Fokker 50 Skyward cargo plane crashed into a building on Wednesday morning in Nairobi’s Utawala area near the General Service Unit training School.
The plane is said to have been ferrying cargo from Nairobi to Mogadishu with four people on board.
JKIA’s chief of security Eric Keraithe said that the plane crashed shortly after take off.
“The plane first hit an electric pole then crashed into a commercial building in Embakasi before bursting into flames,” Keraithe said.
Keraithe added that airport emergency services quickly responded to the crash that occurred around at 4 am on Wednesday morning managing to put out the fire. The area has been cordoned off and emergency personnel are combing through the wreckage of the plane looking for survivors.
The airport has currently resumed full function after it was closed soon after the crash for a security assessment to be conducted.
