Four youths run mad after grueling police recruitment exercise

Four youths were admitted to Bondo sub county hospital after they literally ran mad during a grueling police recruitment exercise on Monday at the Bondo Township Primary School.

The candidates were subjected to a mandatory six kilometers road race. However, on returning from the race, they started acting strangely and reportedly lost consciousness. A struggle ensued between them and the officers manning the exercise as one of them, who emerged fourth in the race, turned violent.

One of them physically attempted to fight Bondo medical officer of health Dr Julius Oliech and the area acting police boss Paul Kiarie before he was contained.

Divine intervention was also sort to calm down the four.

Dr Oliech said that the four had just gone into a state of confusion after collapsing, adding that medical examinations revealed that they underwent severe dehydration and shock as a result of strain.

"The four went into mental lapses because of severe dehydration and shock as a result of strain," he said adding that three of the affected recruits were in a stable condition while the fourth showed continued deterioration. He however assured that they were still conducting tests in an attempt to contain his health and mental state.
