Governor Kidero bans alcohol at upcoming Kabeberi 7s rugby event

31 Jul 2014

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has banned the sale and consumption of alcohol during the Kabeberi 7s rugby event at Railways Club on August 2 to 3.

Kidero said no one will be allowed in the stadium with alcohol. Neither will those attending the event be allowed to drink in their cars. Alcoblow devices will be placed strategically around the pitch to check on those drinking.

Kidero issued the directive at a press briefing in his office this Thursday adding that security will be provided during the event.

The issue surrounding alcohol being served at sporting events recently elicited a heated public debate when Nacada chairman John Mututho said such sporting events like Masaku 7s should be banned.

Mututho who likened the event to Sodom and Gomorrah said that underage persons were sold alcohol during the event which is contrary to the law.
