Arrested liquor trader collapses and dies at Makadara Law Courts

27 Aug 2014

A woman collapsed and died in Makadara Court, Nairobi where she was expected to answer to charges of selling liquor before the legal hours and without a license.

When the charges were read to her, the woman gazed in confusion before collapsing in the dock. Efforts to administer first aid treatment were unsuccessful and the woman was pronounced dead.

Ruiru Sub-County AP Commandant Hesbon Lusweti said the deceased woman, Agnes Nyambura had been arrested in Githurai where she was operating a Jubilee Wines & Spirits bar. She was then taken into custody at Kimbo AP Camp in Ruiru on Sunday.

Lusweti also said the deceased had not complained of any health problems while in custody and that it appeared the deceased had never appeared before a court of law and may have died out of shock. The body was taken to City Mortuary for postmortem as police launched an investigation into the incident, he said.
