Separate road accidents claim nine lives

Six people died in an accident at Tula along Garissa-Mwingi road at around 5am on Tuesday.

The accident involved a head on collision between a Toyota Probox going to Nairobi from Garissa and an incoming lorry. The Toyota Probox driver was reportedly attempting to overtake another vehicle when the accident occurred.

Confirming the incident, Garissa traffic base commandant Ramadhan Mujomba said the six occupants of the Probox died on the spot when the vehicle they were traveling in crashed into the Garissa bound lorry.

Meanwhile, between Nzau and Kibwezi at the Mwanyani area along Nairobi - Mombasa road, three people perished on Monday at around 3pm in a separate road accident. One other person was left seriously injured. Confirming the incident, Makindu Police boss, Francis Sang, said that the three male victims had been drinking at at a bar, Mbui Nzau, in the morning before leaving for Kibwezi at around 2pm.

The police boss said that the motor bike they were traveling on lost control and hit a lorry whose driver tried to evade running them over. He said the lorry, which was heading from Mombasa to Nairobi, was then hit from behind by another lorry that was trailing it. The driver was seriously injured in the incident and was rushed to the Makindu level 4 hospital while the dead were moved to Makindu Mortuary.
