Uasin Gishu governor aides and security officer die in grisly road accident

19 Sept 2014

Three aides to Uasin Gishu county Governor, Jackson Mandago have died after the car they were traveling in collided head on with a trailer along the Eldoret-Nakuru Highway. The trailer was reported to have been heading to Eldoret town, while the aides were on their way to join the governor and Deputy President William Ruto at a funeral in Timboroa.

The governor's political adviser and personal assistant died on the spot while one security officer died at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.

The police have however declined to release names of the accident victims until their next of kin are notified of their death.

"It appears the car was overtaking another vehicle when it collided with the oncoming trailer," said Eldoret West Police boss, Lazarus Wambua, who also added that a security adviser and the driver, sustained serious injuries and had been admitted at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.

The vehicles involved in the accident were extensively damaged.
