Senator calls for arrest of Paul Kobia over Fidel's death

Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula has asked police to arrest the controversial businessman Paul Kobia who was admitted to hospital after allegedly going berserk on Thursday.

Police reported that his family took him to the Gigiri police station after he became violent at his Runda home. Meanwhile, sources close to the events said that he kept muttering the words, 'I killed Fidel'.

Addressing mourners at Fidel Odinga's burial service at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, the Bungoma Senator said that police did not have the mandate to declare anyone mad as that was the power of the judicial institutions.

Various other speakers at the funeral service also pointed to the unnatural circumstances surrounding Fidel's death.

Lawyer Kethi Kilonzo likened the recent continuous deaths of politicians and their relatives to the poaching menace. She said that there were poachers killing lions in their camp.

"We have poachers of lions, poachers took away my father, poachers took away Kajwang and now poachers have taken Fidel. We need to stop these poachers," lawyer Kethi said while addressing the mourners in Swahili.

Acting Inspector General of Police, Samuel Arachi on Thursday dismissed media reports claiming Kobia had been arrested.

Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko said Kobia had claimed knowing how Fidel Odinga died during an altercation with his security team at Village Market.

Two guns were found in his car despite the fact that his firearm licence had been withdrawn after he shot dead a motorist last year.

Fidel died on Sunday morning at his Karen home.

The results of his autopsy and cause of death are yet to be publicized.
