A service at the Anglican Church of Kenya in Mombasa, was on Sunday disrupted after a vehicle was abandoned inside the church by two suspects, who reportedly ran away.
The suspects allegedly forced their way into the church compound through the rear gate. They then parked the car at the main entrance at around 11.30am.
This caused panic among the worshippers who were immediately evacuated. More than 800 worshipers were reportedly attending the Sunday Easter service. No injuries were reported in the resulting commotion.
Anti terrorism police and bomb diffusion experts towed the vehicle to central police station for further investigation and inspection. A woman who was making repeated phone calls during the church service was also taken in for questioning.
The church Bishop, Julius Kalu said the church premise is usually guarded by two armed police officers.
