Do Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta and Eldoret North MP William
Ruto have a common plan?
Undoubtedly yes! And what is this common plan
against the Kenya Republic? And who can defeat this common plan against
our people?
It’s the People’s Court that must decide. It’s a burden of
responsibility we must discharge. An Uhuru-Ruto ticket is a common plan
against the International Criminal Court (ICC).
I have no problem in their pursuit of their ‘democratic’ right. But I
have heart-nerving concerns in the intent or motive of their common
plan. As a Kenyan I have internalised the serious consequences of an
Uhuru-Ruto presidency. We shall not perpetrate in commission or omission
in its ‘successful’ execution.
My take is as follows. There was actually a design to ‘make’ the
often politically uninspiring Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi
Kenya’s fourth president. And he actually had believed it.
Ikolomani MP Boni Khalwale was a principle believer too. Useful
lessons for young Kenyans. Don’t rant yourself foolishly hoarse. Wait
for the chickens to hatch.
Dr Khalwale’s desperate public pronouncements on an alliance with
Kalonzo’s Wiper party projects a good man immersed in self-ridicule.
The Wiper people are politicians too. They know a Mudavadi-Kalonzo
ticket is mere experimentation. And they can’t afford an experiment.
Kalonzo has been through that road before. Unlike Mudavadi, Kalonzo’s
challenges are different. He is not trying to prove he is his own man
and can go it all the way by himself. He has already shown his grit.
Kalonzo is already his own man. An effective communicator, a polished professional, who I believe is often misunderstood.
Uhuru and Ruto could not ‘trust’ either Kalonzo or Mudavadi with
their fate. Their common plan is to go it all the way as the only
‘security’ to their fate. The intent being that when ICC dawns, be in a
position to make that decision for or against themselves.
And Uhuru and Ruto do believe they have the numbers to win. Through
their tribal numbers and other ethnic allies, their numbers do seem to
add up. Asking Mudavadi and Kalonzo to work with them is not about
uniting Kenyans. It is about numbers, which still hinge on the edge.
My hope is that the court does allow them to run. This ‘referendum’
is extremely important for Kenya. It will define the single most
important issue of the March 4 election. Kenyan elections will be about
foreign policy and Kenya’s strategic interest and position both
regionally and internationally.
That’s why I think a Raila-Kalonzo presidency will secure and
preserve the soul of Kenya. It will position us as a beacon nation. It
will demonstrate that we are a citizenry not to be underestimated by
wishful ethnic engineering. A people who have rejected the path of
ethnicity and impunity.
Raila and Kalonzo do not need to like each other. They simply need to
love Kenya more. They must also be cognisant of what is at stake.
