We should not let MPs run down Uwezo fund

25 Nov 2013

MPs want to create a bill that will see them take charge of the six billion Uwezo fund for youth and women. They have lined up numerous amendments to the draft law to have them take full charge of the fund just as they did with the CDF.

If the amendments sail through, it means that they will be the managers of the fund despite the fact that they have been accused of mismanaging the CDF allocations. They have also appointed their friends and relatives, most of whom are not qualified to operate these offices.

This has always seen the funds not being used for their intended purpose.

What makes them think that things will be any different if they become patrons of the Uwezo fund?

Whatever the motivation, we cannot trust them with the cash.
