At least six people were killed on Monday night when explosives were hurled at a food kiosk and bus stop in Nairobi’s Eastleigh area. The attack which occurred at around 7:30pm also left at least 10 others wounded.

Emergency and security personnel rushed to the scene to contain the injuries and maintain security while the injured had been evacuated to Kenyatta National Hospital according to the Red Cross.

Eastleigh estate in Nairobi was just recently in the news. A suspected terrorist was killed when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) he was assembling exploded. The estate has also been a scene of numerous suspected terrorist activities, including explosions and police arrests of alleged terrorists.

The police have sealed of the area for further investigations though one officer stated that they suspected it to be a grenade.

The attack comes barely a week after suspected terrorists opened fire on worshippers in a church in Likoni, Mombasa killing and wounding several people including children.

It also comes at a time when security has been heightened due to reports of planned terrorist attacks in the country. Kenya has been under a wave of terror attacks a number of which the Al Shabaab terrorist group claimed responsibility. The terror group, based in Somalia, has vowed to retaliate on Kenya after the Kenyan military entered Somalia to stop terrorist activities.
