East African Affairs, Commerce and Tourism Cabinet Secretary Phyllis Kandie has urged Kenyans to work together to improve the country’s image after increased terror threats.

Kandie says the terror incidents in the country risks eroding Kenya’s image abroad, and has urged all Kenyans to work together by assisting security agencies root outterrorism.

“When I say all of us, I mean exactly that, a taxi driver who picks up a tourist at the airport immediately becomes the face of Kenya to that visitor. A licensing officer, who delays the registration of a business or worse, is hostile to those he or she serves, portrays a negative image of Kenya to Kenyans and visitors alike,” she said.

She also expressed concerns of the impact that poaching of wildlife is causing in the country and urged for concerted efforts to stem the vice.

“The poaching of our wildlife especially the critically endangered rhino and elephant species devalues our national brand,” she said.

She said her ministry is committed to rebranding the country through local and global events such as fairs, exhibitions and sports.

Kandie was speaking at the launch of Best of Kenya Volume Three, by Global Village Publishers. The book showcases the country’s achievements over the last 50 years as well as how the private and public sectors have worked together through the years to make Kenya East Africa’s economic powerhouse.

Kandie said the book will be critical in showcasing Kenya as a tourism destination. She urged Global Village Publishers to take a new challenge and publish a book that brands the East African region.

In 2012, the publisher published Best of Kenya Volume Three – Vision 2030 edition that explained into detail what Vision 2030 entails, what its pillars and drivers are and how Kenyans and their economic, political and political and social lives relate to it.
