Machakos Governor, Mutua in court to stop arrest

8 Jul 2014

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua on Tuesday moved to court in a bid to stop his arrest by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission over accusations of financial impropriety.

The governor wants the court to stop the Director of Public Prosecution from issuing a warrant of arrest against him until his petition is heard and determined.

Mutua told the court that the allegations were related to the procurement of vehicles for his county and denied being party to the purchase adding that it had been approved by the Transitional Authority. He also blamed the accusations on political rivalry.

Justice Isaac Lenaola ordered the parties to return to court on Wednesday.
