The World Health Organisation (WHO) has classified Kenya as a Level 2 High Risk Infection Area for the Ebola Virus.
WHO representative to Kenya, Dr Custodia Mandhate said the classification level was reached at following a risk analysis conducted in the country after the outbreak of the disease in Guinea on 21 March.
About 1,013 Ebola deaths have been reported so far out of a total of 1,848 confirmed cases in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia.
Mandhate said that 5000 pieces of protective equipment and resources had been dispatched to Kenya by the World Health Organization to help in surveillance and treatment in the event of detection of Ebola.
Meanwhile, the government and the Health Ministry has ruled out the possibility of canceling West African flights as a measure to control spread of the virus. The health Cabinet Secretary, James Macharia termed a ban on flights as pointless as people still found their way into the country by road.
The cabinet secretary has also said that 100 health officers trained on Ebola treatment had been deployed to entry points around the country including JKIA, Mombasa, Busia, Malaba, Kajiado, Uasin Gishu and other major towns.
