30 Sept 2014

Former Vice President, Kalonzo Musyoka has appealed to Chinese investors to choose Kenya as their preferred tourism and investment destination.

While wooing investors, Kalonzo said Kenya is the gateway to the East African economic hub and urged Chinese entrepreneurs to base their regional headquarters in the country.

He was addressing the 9th World Eminent Chinese Businessmen Association capital forum in the Chinese capital, Beijing in his capacity as the Honorary Chairman of the organization.

“People to people contact from our two countries have been on the increase and today Kenya enjoys the preferred tourist destination status able to receive many tourists from China. This status was granted in 2001 when I was my country’s Minister for Tourism and Information,” the former VP said.

He also assured potential Chinese tourists that Kenya had not experienced any Ebola threats.

“May I take this opportunity to invite all of you to visit Kenya as tourists and also to make it your preferred investment destination. You do not need to worry about the threat of Ebola because there has not been a single reported case in Kenya,” he said.

Kalonzo who is also a co-principal in the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) commended corporations that have already invested in Kenya and invited the Chinese entrepreneurs to invest in the upcoming economic zones of Konza techno city, Machakos city and the Mui/ Kitui economic zones, whose driver is coal mining.

The forum brought together over 3000 Chinese entrepreneurs and others from Portugal and Turkey majoring in different fields spanning through mining, real estate, construction, manufacturing amongst others.

The weeklong forum will be concluded officially on Sunday
