Over 10 feared dead as boat capsizes in River Nzoia

Several people are feared dead after a passenger boat they were traveling in capsized at River Nzoia’s Narera crossing point in Budalang’i on Saturday afternoon.

The boat had left Port Victoria in Busia County headed for Mau Mau beach when the incident occurred at around 1pm. The boat was reported to have been carrying 23 people with nine being rescued from drowning.

“One woman who was travelling with her three children has been rescued.The body that has been retrieved is her child’s. The other two are missing,” Bunyala West location chief, Alfred Namwakira, said adding that, “Initial reports say the boat was overloaded. We are yet to ascertain exactly how many people were on board.”
