We aren't after huge titles, Governor Rutto tells MPs

20 Feb 2015

Governors have criticised a decision by members of the National Assembly to amend the Order of Precedence Bill, 2014, stripping them of the title ‘His Excellency’.

Council of Governors chairman Isaac Rutto said the MPs have stooped so low as to legislate on issues relating to titles and flags instead of addressing more pressing national issues.

“The current crop of legislators in the National Assembly are fixated with titles and have become so frivolous that they have forgotten their core mandate,” Rutto said.

In as statement to the press in Bomet town yesterday, the Bomet Governor said as county chiefs, they are not interested in titles.

He said they are focused on rolling out development projects to benefit the people at the grassroots level.

“Counties are now experiencing development projects that had not been realised in 50 years,” Rutto said.

"We would not be surprised if they pass laws to stop us from singing the National Anthem" - Governor Rutto
